TRUDEAU ASKED TO CALL FOR RELEASE OF SAUDI CRITIC

Raif Badawi’s children are appealing to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to call Saudi Arabian authoritie­s to ask for their father to be freed as the fifth anniversar­y of his imprisonme­nt looms. “Mr. Trudeau, pick up the phone, call the king of Saudi Arabia, so our father comes back,” says the French video message posted on Amnesty Internatio­nal's website Friday. Badawi's wife and children live in Sherbrooke, Que. He was arrested in 2012 and sentenced to 1,000 lashes and 10 years in jail for his criticism of Saudi clerics.
