1 Vin de Pays D’OC 2015, Grenache de Grenache, JeanClaude Mas, France white, $11.55, SAQ # 12990742.

Shockingly good for the price. Great introduction to Grenache blanc and Gris with its rich texture, orchard fruit and driving mineral finish. If you prefer your whites less “acid,” this is for you. Residual sugar: 2.1 g/l. Grape varieties: Grenache blanc, Grenache Gris. Drink now. Food pairing suggestion: Seafood pasta in cream sauce, lobster club.

2 Riesling 2015, Hugel, France white, $17.85, SAQ # 42101.

Considering the warmth of the 2015 vintage, remarkably linear. Maybe it’s a touch fleshier than usual and more restrained in terms of aromas, but like always, a solid Riesling that shows good minerality and balance between flesh and acidity. Residual sugar: 4.8g/l. Grape variety: Riesling. Serve at: 8-10C. Drink now-2018. Food pairing suggestion: Aperitif, boiled lobster, grilled shrimp with lemon.

3 Toscana IGT 2015, Argentiera, Poggio Ai Ginepri, Italy white, $19.95, SAQ # 11952015.

Interesting blend and, as a result, a unique wine. White flowers and talc on the nose mixed with bright citrus. There’s some decent body with a refreshing and slightly bitter finish. While a touch jarring up front, the salty minerality keeps bringing you back for more. Residual sugar: 1.5 g/l. Grape varieties: vermentino, Viognier, sauvignon blanc. Serve at: 8-10C. Drink now. Food pairing suggestion: Aperitif, lobster club.

4 Chablis 2015, Saint-Martin, Domaine Laroche, France white, $24.55, SAQ # 114223.

Classically styled village Chablis with apples, pears, and a solid chalky mineral salty finish. Textbook. Residual sugar: 1.5g/l. Grape variety: Chardonnay. Serve at: 10-12C. Drink now-2018. Food pairing suggestion: Aperitif, boiled lobster, grilled shrimp with lemon.

5 Santorini 2015, Estate, Argyros, Greece white, $27.30, SAQ # 12889556.

Super taut. Mineral, beautiful acids, citrus and stone fruit. Lengthy, almost painful finish with that smoke/ acid/mineral/heat. Heat in a white wine? Yes. This just rocks and will be even better in a few years. Residual sugar: 1.5 g/l. Grape variety: assyrtiko. Serve at: 8-12C. Drink now-2020. Food pairing suggestion: Aperitif, white fish grilled, boiled lobster.

6 Chardonnay 2013, Calcaire, Sonoma, Clos du Bois, California white, $28.85, SAQ # 12281532.

Impressive. Hard to place in California because of the mineral intensity. Fruit is in the melon/tropical spectrum, with just a hint of oak spice and toffee on the finish. Really good. Residual sugar: 1.6g/l. Grape variety: Chardonnay. Serve at: 10-14C. Drink now-2020. Food pairing suggestion: Lobster club, shrimp curry.

7 Saumur 2015, Château Yvonne, France white, $29.70, SAQ # 10689665.

A touch riper than last vintage with a touch more of a honeyed texture, but still shows that signature acidity and saline note that refreshes. This is built to age and will gain even more complexity, so give this some time in a carafe if you drink it now. Residual sugar: 3.8g/l. Grape variety: Chenin Blanc. Serve at: 10-14C. Drink now2022. Food pairing suggestion: Lobster club, scallops with fruit salsa.

8 Chablis Premier Cru 2015, Homme Mort, Château de Maligny, France white, $36, SAQ # 872986.

The extra weight of a premier cru combined with the richness of the 2015 vintage, this is more textured than you might expect. The rockiness reminds me of fresh cement of all things. Finish is lemony and lengthy. Residual sugar: 1.2g/l. Grape variety: Chardonnay. Serve at: 10-12C. Drink now-2019. Food pairing suggestion: Lobster club, cod in cream sauce.
