Honour Terry Fox on the mountain

-

Re: “Eyebrows raised over $3.4M granite ‘stumps’ ” (Montreal Gazette, Aug. 4) I and many other people feel these stumps are a complete waste of money. Many provinces have statues of national hero Terry Fox. Fox passed through our great city in 1980 while running his Marathon of Hope.

What better to inspire walkers and runners alike than a monument to him, maybe on a hill near Beaver Lake. I have trained for many of marathons on the mountain and I believe a statue of Fox would inspire people to never give up. The cost would not even come close to the $720,000 Mordecai Richler gazebo.

I have participated in every Terry Fox Run to raise funds for cancer research for the past 37 years, the past six years as a Stage 4 cancer survivor. I feel it’s time to put something on Mount Royal that people could really relate to and appreciate. Eddy Nolan, Pointe-St-Charles
