Quebec’s independent investigations unit (BEI) has been called in after a robbery suspect was shot and wounded by Montreal police. According to the BEI, the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. Monday when a taxi driver was robbed by an armed man on Pie IX Blvd. Afterward, the taxi driver contacted police, who found the suspect at a bus stop at the corner of Pie IX Blvd. and Charleroi St. Officers told him to drop the handgun he was holding, but he didn’t. The suspect then gestured toward the officers, who opened fire, hitting him once. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The BEI, which is assigned to probe police operations in which someone is killed or injured, is urging anyone with information to contact them via their website.
