Season officially over for Mets captain

-

David Wright’s hopes of returning to the New York Mets this season are over. The team said Monday the third baseman will have surgery on his right rotator cuff in New York on Tuesday. Wright last played in the majors in May 2016 and had surgery the next month for a herniated disc in his neck. He cut short his comeback in the minors last week after experiencing pain in his throwing shoulder. The 34-year-old team captain has three years and US$47 million remaining on an eight-year, US$138-million contract he signed in 2012.
