Where and when do I vote — and what should I bring?

- ANDY RIGA ariga@postmedia.com twitter.com/andyriga

Sunday, Nov. 5, is election day in Montreal and other Quebec cities.

Here’s what you need to know to cast your ballot.

WHAT ARE THE OPENING HOURS OF POLLING STATIONS?

10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Don’t forget Sunday is the day clocks are turned back one hour because daylight time ends.

WHERE DO I VOTE?

You should have received a voter reminder card in the mail. It features the address of your polling station. If you don’t have your card, check with your local municipality’s election office. In Montreal, visit the chief electoral officer’s website (mycitymyvote): enter your postal code and the site will provide the name of your district and your polling-station address. You can reach Election Montreal at 514-872-8683. Montreal says all of its polling stations will be wheelchair accessible.

CAN MY NAME BE ADDED TO THE ELECTORAL LIST?

No. The deadline for adding or correcting names was Oct. 17.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO VOTE?

You must have a piece of government-issued identification such as a health insurance card, a drivers’ licence or a Canadian passport. Bring your voter reminder card; it will help election workers find you on the electoral list.

WHO IS RUNNING IN MY AREA?

The reminder card shows the positions up for grabs and the names of candidates in your area. If you don’t have the card, check with your local election office or find your local list of candidates on Elections Quebec’s site (electionsmunicipales .quebec).

HOW MANY BALLOTS WILL I CAST?

That depends on where you live. In Montreal, voters will get three to five colour-coded ballots, depending on their borough. All Montreal electors vote for the city mayor; most boroughs have borough mayors and city councillors, and some also have borough councillors.

WHO SHOULD I VOTE FOR?

WHERE CAN I GET ELECTION RESULTS?

Elections Quebec says it will post results at elections municipales. quebec after polls close. For coverage on election night, including a live blog, visit montrealgazette.com.
