Boushie vigil set for Tuesday

-

A Montreal vi gil in honour of Col ten Bo us hie will take place on Tuesday, joining a number of events across the country amid a chorus of outrage after a white farmer was acquittedin the shooting death of the Indigenous man in Saskatchewan.

The vi gil is scheduled to take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Norman Bethune Square, next to Concordia University.

Boushie, a member of the Red Pheasant Cree Nation, was shot and killed in August 2016 by Gerald Stanley, a white farmer. On Friday, a jury found Stanley not guilty. His lawyers had argued the shooting was accidental.

Protest sand vigils were held from Vancouver to Halifax to condemn the verdict and show solidarity with Boushie’s family. On Twitter, #JusticeForColten was trending in Montreal. More events were expected to be announced.
