Preservation or window dressing?

-

Re: “McCord Museum inherits Ogilvy’s iconic holiday window displays” (Montreal Gazette, March 22)

It is no surprise that the enchanting Christmas window display will no longer be seen in Ogilvy’s Ste. Catherine St. window. Cancelling the piper on his daily noon-hour round was the first chink in the old traditions — perhaps more of an omen.

Most people, I am sure, are not naïve enough to believe that the move of the heritage pieces to the McCord Museum is being done to ensure their preservation. The new owners seem to care little for the past when the future could be so lucrative to them.

Sorry, but a $50,000 cheque and vapid phrases simply do not wash.
