POWER RANKINGS WEEK 3

-

1.

Calgary (1)

With the Grey Cup defeat still fresh in their minds and the Argos doing everything they could to remind the Stamps of it, Calgary put the hammer down on the Argos, beating them at every facet in the revenge game of revenge games. Bo Levi Mitchell finally looking like himself after slow start.

2.

Ottawa (7)

Fresh off a bye week (like anyone needs a bye in Week 1), the Redblacks positively thumped the Green Riders. Trevor Harris was on fire, throwing for 345 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Not getting much love early on from the pundits, but that could change quickly.

3.

Hamilton (6)

Tabbies made up for a missed opportunity in Week 1 with a dominant Week 2 win over the Eskimos. Head coach June Jones and a handful of players gave the offensive line big props for their work up front as the Ticats ran and passed wild in the win. If this team stays relatively healthy, look out.

4.

Edmonton (2)

Eskies had no answer for Jeremiah Masoli and June Jones’ run-andshoot offence. Ticats put up 41 points on Edmonton, while Mike Reilly and company struggled to find any semblance of a rhythm. Odd to see Reilly struggle like he did.

5.

B.C. (4)

We don’t really know that much about the Lions other than they are capable of beating a poor Montreal team. They take a step back only because other teams have stepped up in their brief absence. Eskimos should provide a real test at home.

6.

Saskatchewan (3)

Major step back for the Riders, who looked solid at home in the opener against Toronto and then looked all but lost on the road in Ottawa. Protection is going to be a major theme all season long or it could be a very long season for the Zach Collaros/ Brandon Bridge quarterback combo.

7.

Winnipeg (8)

Odd to fall a spot coming off a win, but that says more about Montreal than it does Winnipeg. Young QB Chris Streveler seems to be progressing nicely, but we’ll reserve judgment until the real test Friday in Hamilton. He’s certainly fast and elusive.

8.

Toronto (5)

As much as the loss to Calgary stung, the sight of Ricky Ray being carted off the field on a stretcher is far more worrisome. The defending champs are 0-2 and have a bye week to ponder possible life without Ray and their own slow start. Could be a long week for all concerned.

9.

Montreal (9)

Badly in need of a quarterback to give them some kind of offensive threat. Averaging 10 points a game just isn’t going to get it done. Defence hasn’t been exactly stellar, either. Travelling to Saskatchewan this week won’t make things any better.
