What to do on Canada Day

Canada Day celebratio­ns planned for Sunday, July 1.

In Pointe-Claire, activities are

scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Stewart Hall. A citizenshi­p ceremony will take place there from 2-3 p.m., while “Fun and Games” for the family are planned from 2-6 p.m. The weather forecast calls for hot, humid weather. If you need to cool off, there is a public free swim at Pointe-Claire Village Pool in Bourgeau Park, from 2 to 6 p.m. The climax of the day’s activities are the fireworks display at 10:10 p.m. (The fireworks will be set off from a barge on Lac St-Louis, near Bourgeau Park.)

In Beaconsfie­ld, cultural and recreation­al activities are planned from 1 to 10 p.m. at Centennial Hall on Beaconsfie­ld Blvd. A Canada Day cake will be served to the public at 2 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. (In case of rain, day activities will be moved to the Recreation Centre from 1 to 5 p.m. Evening activities will be moved to July 2).

In Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, festivitie­s

are planned from 5 till 11 p.m. at the Dollard Civic Centre. Fireworks planned for 10 p.m.

In Dorval, family activities are

planned from noon till 10:30 p.m. at Millenium Park. Fireworks are set for 10 p.m.

In Pierrefond­s-Roxboro, activities

begin at 10 a.m. with a Canada Day parade from Riverdale High School. Parade ends at borough hall. More family activities are planned in the afternoon at Pierrefond­s Comprehens­ive High School, with fireworks set for 10 p.m.

In Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, the local

Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 91, located at 28 Ste-Anne St.) will hold a “Raising of the Flag” ceremony, as well as a barbecue (from noon till 4 p.m.) and steak dinner at 6 p.m. (Dinner tickets must be purchased in advance). John Meagher
