Coups de coeur by la TOHU

Feb. 20-March 2, 8 p.m., 2 p.m. or 3 p.m.

The not-to-be-missed event for circus lovers everywhere is back for a fourth edition! A true celebration of all things circus, the evening serves up the best of the best, complete with an exciting mix of the top artists from a variety of disciplines. The acts— performed by artists from different backgrounds who all share a spirit of creativity and a mastery of their art form—have an originality and a virtuosity that set them apart. When it works, it works! Coups de coeur is once again set to take the circular stage by storm. The event, inspired by galas, cabarets and variety shows, features the men and women behind the performances. Hosted by a captivating master of ceremonies, the evening brings together breathtaking numbers that have left audiences awestruck and abuzz with excitement: A wonderful way to turn the spotlight on today’s contemporary circus arts. Now’s your chance to see what all the fuss is about!

Passagers by Les 7 Doigts Nov.4-Jan. 5, 2 p.m., 3 p.m. 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. or 8:30 p.m., depending on the day

A new work by Les 7 doigts de la main is an event in itself, and Passagers is no exception. In the spirit of the collective’s previous shows, Passagers pushes the limits of the scenic experience in a quest to arrive at what is universal, extraordinary, indefinable, visceral and deeply personal within us all. Passagers is a fusion of dance, physicality, music and acrobatics set against a backdrop where travel nostalgia meets the modern-day multimedia world. Shana Carroll, who directed Traces, Séquence 8 and Cuisine & Confessions among others, has put together an exceptional design team for this show, which is complete with original musical compositions, an ingenious set and an international cast of eight artists. The narrative arc follows that of a journey: In a train car, strangers cross paths as they negotiate departures and arrival, stillness and acceleration, familiar and the foreign. Driven by the same, creative, multidisciplinary and collaborative approach that marks all of the company’s work, Passagers invites us to enter into a fascinating world that reveals the tender intimacies of human beings so much like ourselves.

Machine de Cirque

Oct. 10-14, 3 p.m. or 8 p.m. A revelation at MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE in 2015, Machine de Cirque went on to enjoy great success in near 15 countries. And now this amusing and dynamic male quintet is back yet again with only six performances! It’s your chance to discover—or rediscover— their first show, a foray into a world that’s both touching and uproarious. Five ingenious survivors of the apocalypse join forces around a scaffold that has been transformed into a veritable living machine and try to pick up a signal. Will they succeed? Perilous situations ensue in an electrifying atmosphere that fuses acrobatics, juggling, trapeze, unicycle, drumming and springboard, all unfolding to a driving percussionist beat. Filled with humanity and humour, this circus machine will delight performance buffs, fans of physical theatre and spectators of all stripes looking for an adrenaline high. info: http://tohu.ca/en/season/ spectacle/2018-2019/machine-decirque-2/ 514-376-8648 tohu.ca
