City must step up on street safety

Re: “We need to do more to curb pedestrian deaths” (Allison Hanes, Sept. 12)

-

The city of Montreal must absorb some responsibility for the number of pedestrian accidents and undocumented “near misses.” Our safety is being compromised, and it is not acceptable.

Drivers in Montreal have become dangerously preoccupied, distracted and stressed by the inconsistent and disorganized manner of road changes. Pedestrians can no longer rely on the availability of a safe neighbourhood sidewalk. No one knows the way anymore.

Who has the intelligent capacity to correct this? Anne McGarr, Côte-St-Luc
