Celebrating 70 years of performance, innovation and motorsport
Canadians continue to embrace Porsche and its products in growing numbers.
Among the company’s bestsellers is the Cayenne. Originally introduced in 2002, the third generation of the successful model is a completely new development. The vehicle combines — now more than ever — the typical segmentleading performance with excellent everyday practicality that customers come to expect from Porsche.
Despite its extended standard equipment, the Cayenne is up to 65 kilograms lighter thanks to its intelligent lightweight construction. The vehicle is now arriving in Canada with a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine developing 340 horsepower and, shortly thereafter, will be joined by the 440-horsepower Cayenne S and 550-horsepower Cayenne Turbo models. Its range of powerful turbocharged engines, new eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox, standard active all-wheel drive, new chassis systems, and innovative Porsche Advanced Cockpit display and control concept with total connectivity take both sport and comfort to the next level.
In June, the company celebrated the 70 years of the Porsche 356 “No. 1” Roadster — the first ever vehicle to grace the roads carrying the Porsche nameplate. Since 1948, the brand has spawned much more than just sports cars: Porsche is a synonym for a sporty driving experience and way of thinking for automotive innovation, design, and functionality.
During the anniversary celebrations at the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen headquarters, the name of the brand’s first purely electrically powered Porsche was revealed to the world. The Taycan will be the sportiest and most technologically advanced vehicle in its segment. It will be leading the way with the development of the 800-volt technology fitted in this model. Thanks to this technology, the car will offer extremely short charging times and impressive ranges that rival the level of vehicles equipped with combustion engines — features that will ensure electro mobility meets with a high level of acceptance from customers. To support this, Electrify Canada recently announced that a network of ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers will be installed in 32 locations near major highways and metro areas in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec starting in the second quarter of 2019. Each site will have four chargers on average and use the nonproprietary DC fast-charging technologies (CCS and CHAdeMO). Charging power will range from 150kW to 350kW for longer-range, larger-battery vehicles.
Porsche does not simply build electric cars. It builds sports cars in a new era of mobility that drive like a Porsche, smell like a Porsche and feel like a Porsche. By 2022, the sports car manufacturer will invest more than 6 billion euros in electro mobility, focusing on both plug-in hybrids and purely electric vehicles.
But the 911 will remain at the heart of the brand. The RSR race model won both the GTE-Pro and GTE-Am classes at this year’s Le Mans 24-Hour marathon and serves as a test-bed during the most gruelling endurance races around the world. The racetrack has been the merciless test platform for sports-car technology and the fruit of its labour is applied to our road-going models, ultimately benefiting our customers.
As has been the case for the past 54 years, the Porsche 911 sportscar icon continues to thrill its owners with a highly effective and desirable blend of performance, efficiency, design, practicality, and innovation. You can be certain that the winning formula will continue to guide the development of our models for years on end.
