10 STYLE STARS to stock up on this season

-

Who doesn’t love a good roster of MVPs (most valuable products, that is)? This fall-winter season, there are plenty of the usual suspects in the sartorial spotlight (think: wool coats and turtleneck sweaters), but there are also a few new style surprises, too (prairie dresses and plaids, we’re looking at you). With this in mind, Aleesha Harris picks out a few MVPs that will be at home in most winter wardrobes. While not meant to be an exact shopping checklist, this roundup is instead intended to offer style direction to help navigate the trends on offer. Think of it as your own editor’s guide to the hottest trends of the season.

CANADA GOOSE APPROACH SUMMIT PUFFER JACKET

A cool puffer jacket is both fashionable and functional in winter. And we’re loving this pink iteration on offer from the Canadian brand Canada Goose. The made-in-Canada style features, including a removable hood and thick down fill, mean you’ll be extra warm while you’re also in seriously good style thanks to the bold hue.

WILFRED FREE THE TEDDY JACKET

There’s something so chic and effortless about an oversized sherpa jacket, especially when it’s worn with understated items like ripped-hem blue jeans and a simple white T-shirt. While this faux version from the Vancouverbased company Aritzia comes in several colours, including pink, grey, ivory and red, we’re partial to the inky black, which adds an elevated feel to this vintageinspired item.

$198 | Aritzia

KOTN CROPPED SWEATSHIRT

Athleisure and cold Canadian winters in general have made simple sweatshirts a must-have for most wardrobes. Searching for a new style? We love the soft, mid-weight terry of this cropped style from the Torontobased brand KOTN. Available in alabaster (off-white) and black, it’s sure to suit your high-waisted trousers and jeans perfectly. Yes, even at work.

COACH ROSE PRINT TIERED DRESS

Prairie-chic and Western ways continue to be strong style influences this season. Think cowboy-inspired boots, floral prints and yoke-detailed shirts. Add a dose of drama to your winter wardrobe with this rose-print, tiered maxi dress from Coach. While it may not be suitable for the soggiest of days, when worn with knee-high, heeled leather boots and a long wool coat overtop, it’s sure to help you step out in style on those crystal-clear, cold ones ahead.

$1,200 | Coach

JOE FRESH CROP WIDE LEG JEANS

Embrace the ongoing high-waist denim movement with these ontrend and oh-so-affordable blue jeans from the Canadian brand Joe Fresh. The cropped style and wide-leg fit ensure you’ll avoid sodden, soggy hemlines, while also perfectly displaying your favourite ankle boots for all to see. $39 | Joe Fresh

CALL IT SPRING THIANIA BOOTS

Think plaid prints are too overwhelming ? Think again. These Thiania boots from Call It Spring let you dip a toe (well, two feet, really) into the trend, without wearing it from head-to-toe. Wear this over-the-knee style with an all-black ensemble to let these stiletto-heeled stunners really shine.

$109.99 | Call It Spring

FILA WOMEN’S DISRUPTOR II PREMIUM SNEAKERS

It’s official, sneakers are now acceptable footwear for just about anywhere. Step out in comfort, not to mention style, this season with a chunky “dad shoe” like these navy-blue throwback sneakers from Fila. The Disruptor II style, which was first introduced in the 1990s, features a heavily lugged sole for an added dose of attitude and traction. $90 | Little Burgundy

LOUIS VUITTON POCHETTE METIS

Logo-emblazoned accessories and ready-to-wear items continue to create a craze among the fashion set this season. Embrace the logomania with this Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis, which features the iconic monogrammed print from the French fashion house, as well as a few eye-catching extras.

$2,360 | Louis Vuitton

CHANEL LE ROUGE CRAYON DE COULEUR MAT JUMBO LONGWEAR MATTE LIP CRAYON

When it comes to beauty this fall-winter, it’s all about opposites. While matte skin and matte lips are in, so are metallic accents. And while we’re admittedly loving the hint of sparkle and shine from metallics, for day-to-day wear we’re partial to a wearable matte like this jumbo crayon from Chanel. The French brand’s long-wearing lip colour is easy to apply and stays in place through snacks and sips. Plus, it doesn’t make lips feel waxy or dry.

$46 | Hudson’s Bay

CREED ACQUA FIORENTINA EAU DE PARFUM

Round out your winter wardrobe update with a fresh scent like Creed’s Acqua Fiorentina Eau de Parfum. The luxurious elixir boasts top note of greengage plum and apple; heart notes of bergamot, lemon, rose and white carnations; and base notes of sandalwood, Virginia cedar and white grapefruit. The madein-France fragrance is fruity, floral, rich and entirely unexpected. $433 | Holt Renfrew aharris@postmedia.com
