Widen fight for school boards
Re: “Protecting rights means keeping school boards” (Opinion, Dec. 4)
Dan Lamoureux, president of the Quebec English School Boards Association, is right when he describes Premier François Legault’s statements about protecting anglo rights but abolishing school boards as “antithetical.” But Lamoureux is preaching to the choir. Maybe we should be trying to enlist the efforts of all Quebecers in denouncing this government’s intention to abolish school boards and replace them with bureaucrats, some of them undoubtedly unconnected to the communities they will serve. I feel safe in assuming that most people — whatever their language — will see this as not a good thing. Robert Sutherland, N.D.G.
