CITY RETHINKS PLAN FOR FACTORY

-

A German city is looking at an alternative location for a sausage museum, after plans to build it on the site of a Nazi holding facility for Jews destined for a concentration camp sparked anger.

The group Friends of the Thuringian Sausage aimed to relocate the building on land where the Nazis held prisoners during the Second World War before shipping them to the Buchenwald camp.

Reinhard Schramm, head of the Jewish community in Thuringia, home to some 800 Jews, said he was “shocked and irritated” by the plan’s “total lack of sensitivity.”

Muehlhausen’s mayor, Johannes Bruns, said on Friday the city council was exploring an alternative location for the sausage museum.
