Dark clouds and sunny ways

-

Justin Trudeau’s facade as the new wave, feminist and altruistic politician has been peeled away bit by bit. For some time now, dark clouds have covered his sunny ways, as witnessed in the fiasco that was the India trip. The heavy burden of leading the country, dealing with the challenging president down south and negotiating Chinese foreign diplomacy will transform an idealistic young man. Perhaps power intoxicated his head and those of his close advisers and blurred their vision. Now he seems to have emerged as a mediocre politician, embattled and desperately struggling to stay in power. If all that wasn’t enough, he is facing an enormous crisis in the name of Jody Wilson-Raybould. She presents as a credible witness, articulate and organized, and I don’t doubt she is telling her truth of being consistently pressured. Kudos for sticking to her decision, but why create this public attack on the prime minister and his close advisers now? I question her timing and motives, causing chaos in the lives of so many of her colleagues as well as the Liberal Party as a whole. Is this payback time for being humiliated and offended at her demotion? Does she not care whom she hurts? Maybe Wilson-Raybould has a hidden agenda that will be disclosed in time. Trudeau, mature and hopefully wiser, will probably win the next federal election as I see no other better candidate on the horizon. The sun will shine again. Hilda Haciky aner, Town of Mount Royal
