2020 Lincoln MKC: new look, new name
Lincoln’s new Corsair SUV will offer three powertrains, including a hybrid option, when it hits dealerships later this year, newly discovered documents show.
The technically new Corsair — which ditches Lincoln’s old and confusing three-letter naming system for a more elegant nautical-themed moniker — is actually the old MKC with a facelift for 2020.
But we don’t want to over-simplify, because there’s more to this crossover than meets the eye.
Corsair is the French word for “pirate,” and the name of a Second World War American fighter plane, so this is immediately a more interesting name than the bland “MKC” designation. The Corsair will share a platform with the upcoming Ford Escape, known as the C2.
The C2 platform is modular and allows for many different configurations and powertrain options. It made its debut under the European 2019 Ford Focus.
According to The Truth About Cars, VIN decoder documents for the 2020 model year sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal the three powertrains for the new vehicle.
The most interesting is a plug-in hybrid setup that combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This will most likely be available on the top-of-the-line model called the Grand Touring, as it is with other Lincoln vehicles.
A standard 2.0-L turbo-four and a 2.3-L turbo-four should also be available for the Corsair, with 237 and 275 horsepower, respectively. Driving.ca
