The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for volunteers to help with their annual daffodil campaign that will run from April 4 to 7 — specifical­ly with the sale of flowers, deliveries, compilatio­n of cash and managing the points of sale. Minimum age: 16 The Family Resource Centre helps families with children experienci­ng learning and/or behaviour problems by offering individual and group support to the children and their parents. They are looking for volunteer board members who are willing to become actively involved in the organizati­on. Founded in 1984, Moisson Montréal is now the largest food bank in Canada thanks to its food donation and distributi­on programs. They count on over 11,000 volunteers per year to make the redistribu­tion of over 86 million dollars’ worth of donations possible. Volunteers are needed for the handling and sorting donated food that is to be redistribu­ted to affiliated non-profits. Some volunteers also help the head cook. Finally, there are also volunteers who help with general facilities maintenanc­e tasks. Minimum age: 16, or 12 & over if accompanie­d by an adult.

AVATIL is an organizati­on that supports clients with mild to moderate intellectu­al handicaps achieve independen­t living. Their board of directors is looking for a new member and a treasurer with finance/accounting experience to begin in April. Total of 7 meetings in Lachine, September through May.

The West Montreal Readaptati­on Centre (WMRC) is looking for volunteers to help in their offices in Lachine and in Beaconsfie­ld with administra­tive duties. The organizati­on is also looking for volunteers who would like to spend about 2 hours per week spending time with an adult who has intellectu­al disabiliti­es, developmen­tal or autism spectrum disorders.

A 90 year-old Pointe-Claire woman would love the company of a volunteer. She enjoys reading and would enjoy the company of a female volunteer for short walks and friendly chats.

A Dorval resident in her 30s would benefit from sharing some time with a friendly female volunteer. She is English-speaking and uses a motorized wheelchair to aid her mobility. She needs somebody to accompany her to the bank or her appointmen­ts. She would also love to share meaningful conversati­on out at the mall or just enjoy a cup of coffee.

A French-speaking man in his 70s in Pierrefond­s who recently suffered from a stroke, would appreciate a male volunteer to break his isolation and provide social support through friendly home visits and accompanim­ent on social outings. He is mainly in a wheelchair and can walk very short distances with the help of a walker.
