WOMAN FREED IN NERVE AGENT MURDER CASE
KAJANG, MALAYSIA A Vietnamese woman who was tried in the killing of the estranged half brother of North Korea’s leader was released from a Malaysian prison and flew back to Hanoi on Friday.
In a video, Doan Thi Huong expressed her gratitude “to everybody who prayed for me.” Huong’s release likely closes the case, since four North Koreans named as co-conspirators in the 2017 slaying aren’t in custody. Malaysian officials never officially accused North Korea and did not want the trial politicized.
In March, Malaysian attorney general dropped a murder case against Huong’s co-defendant, Indonesian Siti Aisyah. The pair were charged with colluding with the North Koreans to murder Kim Jong Nam, leader Kim Jong Un’s half brother, with VX nerve agent.
