BECOME A COLOUR CONNOISSEUR

Ever wonder how paint companies comeup with colour names like Kalahari Sunset, Versailles Rose and Thai Ice Tea? Turns out it’s likely someone actually saw a sunset in the Kalahari, a rose in Versailles or iced tea in Thailand, and thought the hue would be perfect for the retailer.

Behr Paint is looking for a “colour explorer” who will travel the United States and Canada this summer looking for inspiration for a new paint colour they’ll name and create. They’ll also document their journey on social media.

“Each name tells a micro story about the specific shade,” explained Erika Woelfel, vice-president of colour and creative services for Behr.

The summer could include kayaking on Lake Louise in Banff or simply enjoying a music festival. Behr will pay your travel expenses and a US$10,000 stipend.
