Pierrefond­s’ Culkin signs with Rocket

The Laval Rocket announced Friday the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way AHLECHL contract with defenceman Ryan Culkin.

Pierrefond­s’ Culkin, 25, played in 10 regular-season games for the Canadiens’ top farm team last season and had one goal and eight penalty minutes. The six-foottwo, 201-pounder also played in 39 regular-season games with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners, recording two goals and 20 assists.

Culkin, selected in the fifth round by the Calgary Flames in the 2012 NHL draft, has also played for the AHL’s Adirondack Flames and Stockton Heat. He has three goals and 18 assists in 93 career AHL games. In 141 career ECHL games for the Fort Wayne Komets and Adirondack Thunder, he has 14 goals and 68 assists. Culkin played in the QMJHL from 2010 to 2014 with the Quebec Remparts and Drummondvi­lle Voltigeurs, collecting 25 goals and 106 assists in 232 regular-season games.
