Her legacy… her smile.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmothe­r "Sito", Nancy Assaly (née Hajaly) on September 30, 2019 at 89 years old. She was predecease­d by her beloved husband, Raymond and will be greatly missed by her children Leonard (Baya), Joanne (Daniel), John (Julie) and Tom (Jackie) as well as her grandchild­ren Andrew (Jessika), Laurie (Kaan), Jeremy (Mariko), Tiffany and Krystal. She was predecease­d by her brothers Mike (Lorraine) and Eddy and 4 sisters, Louise (Marcel), Olga (Philip), Leona (Alphonse), and Evelyn (Jean Paul). She will be fondly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Nancy will be remembered for her gentle smile and great energy. Up until the age of 88, she had weekly sessions with her personal trainer and last year reluctantl­y retired from her job as a Dollarama cashier. She was once quoted in the Gazette for her secret to aging gracefully. She answered, "I don’t stress. I live life lightly… and dance". Special thanks to the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital (5th floor) and the caregivers who tirelessly managed her health for the last 5 months. Visitation­s will be held at Urgel Bourgie Funeral Complex, 1255 Beaumont, Town of Mount Royal on Wednesday, October 9 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 80 de Castelnau E, on Thursday, October 10 at 9 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to St. Mary’s Hospital, 3830 Lacombe Ave, Montreal, Quebec, H3T 1M5 or St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church. Following the burial there will be a reception.
