WOLFPACK TO JOIN SUPER LEAGUE

The Toronto Wolfpack defeated the Featherstone Rovers 24-6 on Saturday, achieving one of the goals it set for itself, to get to the Super League, the highest echelon of English rugby.

What it may not have counted on was that a crowd of 9,974 would be on hand at Lamport Stadium to celebrate it.

Now, the sport will have a major North American presence and a growing fan base.

Coach Brian McDermott, pictured, blended discipline and a winning structure that should serve the trans-Atlantic squad well as they get ready to face some of the toughest competition in the world.

“This is certainly going to raise the profile of rugby league in Toronto,” McDermott said. “And this team is going to impact the whole game of rugby league.”
