Second man accused of making threats on Dec. 6
A second man has been charged with uttering threats against women on the 30th anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre, police said.
Mohamed Ilyes Krimed, 20, appeared in court during the weekend on two counts of making threats and inciting hatred, Montreal police said Monday without elaborating. Police referred all questions on the case to DPCP, Quebec’s office of criminal prosecutions. A spokesperson for the DPCP didn’t respond to an email request for comment made outside of regular business hours.
This follows Friday’s arrest of blogger Jean-Claude Rochefort in connection with a series of posts prosecutors believe incited hatred against women and writing favourably about Marc Lépine — the man who murdered 14 women at Polytechnique in 1989. Rochefort, 70, appeared in court Friday where he was charged with inciting hate against women. The charges relate to blog posts police say he wrote under a pseudonym.
Rochefort was arrested hours before a ceremony commemorating the victims of the Polytechnique tragedy. Police say he’s an anti-feminist and an admirer of Lépine. He was also arrested 10 years ago and charged with uttering threats on his blog just days before a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the murders.
These latest charges come after an investigation involving detectives from the department’s Prévention et sécurité urbaine unit along with technicians from its cyber crimes division. Police confiscated computer equipment from Rochefort’s home.
