Coronavirus and you: How we are covering the pandemic
There is no bigger story in the world than the coronavirus pandemic. And the situation is changing not just day by day, but hour by hour.
We know how vital information about COVID -19 is to Montrealers, so we’ve spent hours discussing how we can supply you with what you need to know about the pandemic in a responsible and unsensational way.
To that end, we have dedicated a team of reporters to tracking this story every day.
Their work will appear in the print edition of the newspaper — look for a “Coronavirus” label at the top of the page — as well as on our website, montrealgazette.com.
Our website will also feature a live blog of local developments and significant news from Canada and elsewhere, as well as FAQS that are updated daily.
In addition, we are launching a daily email newsletter dedicated to local coronavirus coverage. You can sign up online to receive the top headlines of the day directly to your email inbox by 7 p.m. every evening.
If you are a print reader, you will probably see some changes in our coverage, particularly in the Sports, You and Culture sections. The NHL, MLS and NBA professional sports leagues have now suspended their seasons, meaning there will be fewer sports stories and sports listings. Place des Arts and the Segal Centre are among the Montreal arts institutions that have announced events are on hold.
All of that means slimmed-down arts coverage for the next while.
We will also hold off on publishing the spring-summer social calendar by Social Notes columnist Jennifer Campbell, which was slated to appear on March 21. We will park that feature until further notice.
These are uncertain times. Covering the pandemic is part of a commitment to this community that dates back 242 years.
We take that commitment very seriously.
