WHAT’S OPEN AND CL OSED IN MONTREAL

In a bid to slow the spread of the novel coronaviru­s, Quebec last week cancelled any gatherings that would attract more than 250 people. Here is a partial list of what is open and closed in Montreal.

OPEN

Grocery stores and pharmacies are open. Most retail stores are open.

Société des alcools du Québec outlets are open, but wine tasting events in stores have been cancelled.

Public transit, including the métro system, buses and commuter trains are operating as usual, though with increased cleaning.

CLOSED OR CANCELLED

All daycares, schools, CEGEPS and universiti­es in Quebec are closed for two weeks.

All Montreal libraries, arenas, pools and facilities that can accommodat­e more than 250 people are closed.

Bars, theatres, gyms, ski hills, sugar shacks, arcades, Zumba and yoga classes, pools, arcades, indoor soccer arenas and aquariums have been ordered to close until March 30.

Restaurant­s have been asked to limit their businesses to 50-per-cent capacity. Some, like Joe Beef, Liverpool House and Le Vin Papillon restaurant­s, have chosen to close indefinite­ly.

Longueuil has suspended all community, cultural and sports activities at municipal buildings until April 30, as well as its municipal court until March 20.

Laval has closed its arenas, libraries and community centres until April 12.

The Montreal Science Centre closed as of Saturday. The Old Port will remain open to visitors.

The Botanical Garden and Planetariu­m are closed.

The Bibliothèq­ue et Archives nationales du Québec are closed.

All Quebec court proceeding­s have been suspended unless they are urgent.

Various hospitals have suspended or restricted visits.

Via Rail has suspended the Ocean train between Montreal and Halifax and the Canadian train between Toronto and Vancouver until March 27. Other trains to and from Montreal continue to run, but offer reduced service.

YMCAS are closed until March 29.

The World Figure Skating Championsh­ips, which were to start Monday, have been cancelled.

The Olympic Stadium is closed, along with its sports centres and the tower. Events there until the end of April, including Blue Jays pre-season games, Monster Spectacula­r and the electric car show, have been postponed or cancelled. Employees working there will still have access to their offices.

All Apple stores outside of China are closed until March 27.

Evenko has cancelled all shows planned for the next 30 days.

The Montreal Casino is closed and all the city’s Video Lottery Terminals (VLTS) have been shut down.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is closed until March 30.

The Mccord Museum is closed for a minimum of two weeks.

The Orchestre symphoniqu­e de Montréal has cancelled 11 shows.

Place des Arts has suspended all its activities until April 12.

St. Joseph’s Oratory has cancelled all public masses and concerts until further notice. The Catholic Church of Montreal has also suspended masses, and mosques were strongly urged to suspend prayer services.

Cummings Centre spring registrati­on and programs are postponed, but essential services are continuing. For updates go to cummingsce­ntre.org.

EVENTS POSTPONED

Major sports leagues have suspended play, including the National Hockey League, National Basketball Associatio­n and Major League Soccer. That means the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Impact and Laval Rocket will not play.

Montreal’s St. Patrick’s parade and Hudson’s parade have been postponed.
