The product: Hudson’s Bay is celebrating its 350th anniversary with a colourful release of its iconic Point Blankets.

In addition to celebratory events planned throughout 2020, the company is reissuing a number of limited edition colours of the recognizable wool blanket, each one inspired by previous decades, according to a news release.

“The Hudson’s Bay Company story is vast and interwoven with the history of this country” Iain

Nairn, president of Hudson’s Bay, said in a news release.

“Beginning this year with the launch of our blankets, which have been an indelible part of the company for nearly its entirety, is a fitting start to our celebrations.

“We look forward to marking this milestone year and celebrating with Canadians across the country.”

Launching on the second day of each month, the commemorative blankets will feature modern interpretations of past creations including blue, camel and even “ice cream.”

Why we love it: This collaboration is as much about embracing the past as it is the future.

Whether you’re looking to add a touch of trade history to your home — wool blankets are said to have been among the most sought-after trade items in the Canadian fur trade during the 18th century — or are simply eager for a blanket option that’s just, well, neat, this Hudson’s Bay re-release is worth a second look.

The year’s first celebratory release, the Sky Blue Hudson’s Bay Point Blanket was initially released in 1929 as part of a special Pastel Tones collection. The tone-on-tone blanket is “meant to evoke and honour Canada, from the rushing rivers to the new morning horizons,” according to a news release.

We’re confident this dreamy blue blanket will find a place in many a home decor style, from cool contemporary to Scandinavian minimal and mid-century modern decor.

The price: $450 (queen size)
