Dollard-des- Ormeaux goaltender Devon Levi has been named the Most Valuable Player in the Central Canada Hockey League.

The MVP award caps off a stellar rookie season by Levi, who was also named the CCHL’S 2019-20 Goaltender of the Year and the league’s Top Prospect after backstopping the Carleton Place Canadians to their seventh consecutive regular-season title.

Levi, a former standout goalie with the Lac St. Louis midget AAA Lions, led all CCHL goalies with 34 wins, a 1.47 goals-against average, a .941 save percentage and eight shutouts.

The 2001-born Levi, who has committed to attend Northeastern University, also earned tournament MVP honours earlier this season after helping Canada East win a silver medal at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge.

Canadians head coach Jason Clarke praised Levi’s team-first attitude.

“Devon is just a special person and athlete,” said Clarke. “There isn’t a selfish bone in his body, which makes him the best teammate I have ever seen in this program in over 11 years.

“He’s been an MVP to his teammates, our organization and community. His personality and his love for being at the rink is infectious.”

Last year, Levi was named winner of both the Patrick Roy and Ken Dryden trophies at the Quebec midget AAA league awards gala. The Dryden trophy is awarded to the league’s top goaltending prospect, while the Patrick Roy trophy goes to the best defensive player in the playoffs.

A couple of other West Island hockey products also earned major CCHL awards for the 2019-20 season.

Beaconsfield’s Luke Grainger won the CCHL’S Top Scorer Award after producing 34 goals and 48 assists in 56 games with the Hawkesbury Hawks.

The 1999-born forward was also named the league’s Top Graduating Player.

Grainger, a Lakeshore minor hockey product, is committed to attend Western Michigan University next season.

“Luke’s development with and without the puck has been tremendous,” said Hawkesbury head coach Rick Dorval. “He’s one of the most electrifying players in this league and is always a threat to opponents. He can move as fast east-west as north-south. We’ll miss him next year, but wish him the best of luck at Western Michigan University.”

Grainger and Levi were also named to the CCHL’S First Allstar team.

Grainger’s teammate, first-year forward Dovar Tinling, was named the league’s 2019-20 Rookie of the Year.

Tinling, a 2003-born Pointeclaire native who played last season for the midget AAA Lions, led all CCHL rookie scorers with 51 points (21 goals and 30 assists) in 50 games.

“When Dovar decided to come to Hawkesbury, we knew we had a special talent on our hands, but never did we expect that he was this good,” said coach Dorval. “He practices as hard as he plays and he’s always looking to get better The best part of this player is that he’s only scratching the surface of how good he can become.”

Tinling was also selected to represent Canada at the 2019 World U17 Hockey Challenge and the World Junior A Challenge.
