Seniors’ residences report more virus cases

A South Shore residence for seniors, the Chartwell Greenfield Park Retirement Residence, has a confirmed case of COVID-19, it was announced on Wednesday.

The public health authority confirmed Tuesday that one resident of the Greenfield Park residence for seniors has tested positive for the coronaviru­s that causes COVID-19, Marie-france Lemay, vice-president of Operationa­l Business Services, Quebec, for Chartwell Retirement Residences, said in a statement.

The statement said the resident has been in isolation since March 18. It did not say whether the isolation is at the residence or in hospital.

On Wednesday evening, Chartwell, which has dozens of seniors’ residences in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, said there is also a confirmed case of COVID -19 at Chartwell Manoir St-jérôme.

COVID-19 has been detected in a number of residences for seniors in Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec. Five cases were reported on Wednesday at the Notre-dame-dela-merci residence, a public facility in Ahuntsic-cartiervil­le and three cases at le King David, a private residence in Côte-saint Luc, had been reported by Tuesday. Two other residents this week tested negative for COVID -19.

As well, public health authoritie­s for Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships said Tuesday that 11 residents of the residence for seniors Manoir Sherbrooke had received a diagnosis of COVID -19. Initially, the toll had been nine cases. Of the 11 people affected, six were admitted to hospital and one was in intensive care, public health director Alain Poirier said Tuesday.

In Quebec’s Lanaudière region, there have been four COVID -19-related fatalities at the Eva residence in the town of Lavaltrie.
