HIRRS offers a new perspective on undergarments
When the founders of the Vancouver-based brand HIRRS set out to create their new line, they knew they wanted to create pieces that offered a new perspective on women’s undergarments.
Rather than feel objectified, they aimed to create pieces and supporting campaigns that made them feel empowered with options for a variety of sizes and body shapes.
We caught up with co-founders Lacey Norton and Elizabeth Davey to learn more.
Q For those who aren’t familiar, what is HIRRS?
A HIRRS is a performance-based bodywear line that has been designed for a woman’s movement. It’s a collection of undergarments that bridges the gap between sport and lingerie.
Q Is there a story behind the name?
A We wanted to create a unique word that represents the fluidity of gender associated with being a woman in modern times. HIRRS is a combination of hers and his. We felt it captured the importance of the overlap between women and men.
Q What makes your designs unique?
A Movement, comfort and beauty are all considered, like a trifecta, in making the perfect undergarment. Undergarments, for most people, are the first thing they put on in the morning and the last thing they remove at the end of the day.
The primary focus of HIRRS has been to place function, beauty and minimalism at the forefront of every design, ensuring that when you wear HIRRS you are not thinking about it and can get on with your day and feel confident in your own skin.
Q What made you want to tackle a broader rethink of women’s undergarments?
A The need for it to be reimagined. It’s an ambitious task, but we feel now more than ever there is a need to reconsider what we wear underneath our clothes and provide women with the opportunity to reconnect with their bodies and feel empowered by what they wear, not objectified.
Q Who is your target customer?
A The modern woman of purpose, who is pushing boundaries, shifting perspectives and believes that the female form, in all its many forms, is already perfection.
Q Where are the products designed/made?
A Products are designed in Vancouver and made in Asia.
Q What is the price range for HIRRS designs?
A Pricing of the current collections ranges from $18 to $62.
Q Where can people check them out?
A Online at hirrs.ca or on social media at @hirrsbody.
Q What’s next?
A So much. We are just getting started; 2020 has lots in store for us and we are incredibly excited to get going. aharris@postmedia.com
