Drive-in movies coming to Dorval this weekend

- JOHN MEAGHER jmeagher@postmedia.com

Drive-in movies are coming to the West Island this weekend.

Dorval announced it will be converting the south parking lot at Dorval Gardens, via Carson Ave., into a makeshift drive-in cinema.

On Friday at 9 p.m. the film Sonic the Hedgehog, inspired by the popular Sega game, will be shown in English. On Saturday at 9 p.m., the film Menteur will be shown in French.

The entry costs is $5 per car for Dorval residents, and $8 for non-residents.

No food will be sold on-site, but you can bring your own snacks. The site opens at 8 p.m. both nights.

A city spokesperson said about 150 tickets in total had already been sold as of Tuesday. The parking lot (behind the old Dorval cinema) has room for 200 cars.

Dorval is the latest city to go retro and offer drive-in movies as pandemic entertainment. Vaudreuil-dorion recently announced its plans to offer drive-in movies, or ciné-parc in French, to citizens this summer.

Dorval officials noted that several measures will be implemented onsite to respect distancing requirements and ensure public safety:

You must stay in your vehicle at

all times. But if you need to step out of your vehicle, respect the two-metre distancing. If that is not possible, it is strongly recommended that you wear a mask.

There will be toilets on-site, but

“should be used only … if it’s an absolute necessity.”

Recreational vehicles and

motorcycles are not authorized on-site.

No honking, and it is strictly forbidden

■ to consume alcohol or be under the influence of any drug.

Tickets are available at infoinscriptions.ville.dorval.qc.ca now for Dorval residents, and starting June 3 for non-residents. Dorval residents need a citizen card to purchase tickets. (Residents who do not have a citizen card must call 514-633-4000 to obtain one).
