Buses, bollards and Projet Montréal

Re: “STM sticks to plan for new buses, more jobs” (Montreal Gazette, Sept. 17)

I find it shocking that the transit authority is going ahead with the purchase of 830 hybrid buses and hiring 200 additional bus drivers while ridership is down by 75 per cent during the pandemic.

I also find it hard to understand why “pedestrian corridor” bollards have been installed on Monkland Ave. in front of food stores and pharmacies where sidewalks are about 15 feet wide, already allowing for safe distancing.

These posts are eliminating much needed parking space, creating traffic jams and air pollution, producing a negative financial impact on merchants and creating hardship for seniors who cannot carry parcels a long distance to their parked car.

I will definitely not be voting for Projet Montréal in the next election.
