Forrest Gump author dies
Winston Groom, the author of Forrest Gump, has died at age 77. Karin Wilson, the mayor of his hometown of Fairhope, Ala., shared the news on Facebook. A cause of death was not revealed. Groom is most famous for writing Forrest Gump, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film starring Tom Hanks in the title role, as well as writing the sequel Gump & Co and several non-fiction historical books. The 1994 movie won six Academy Awards, including best actor for Hanks.
