Right to privacy versus safety
Re: “No plan to give police special power to enter homes, says deputy premier” (Montreal Gazette, Sept. 24)
At which point does the right to privacy supersede the right to life?
Public Security Minister Geneviève Guilbault is quoted as saying “the inviolability of private homes is a very important right.”
And yet, the article goes on to note, “the government has been complaining for weeks about parties being held in private homes, which have been identified as the principal source of new COVID-19 infections.”
Since these infections can cause death, I can't help but wonder: Which human “right” should government leaders be putting at the top of their list of considerations? Carol Foster, Montreal West
