SENATORS SET TO Buy OUT RYAN

-

The Ottawa Senators are parting ways with recent Masterton Trophy winner Bobby Ryan, pictured. Senators GM Pierre Dorion and coach D.J. Smith informed Ryan on Friday morning that he's being placed on waivers so the team can buy out the final two years of his contract. Ryan, 33, signed a seven-year, Us$50.75-million deal with the Senators in 2014. He left the team last season because he was battling alcoholism and needed to seek help. He shared his story publicly, and earlier this month won the Masterton Trophy, which is awarded to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. According to Capfriendly.com, Ryan's buyout will be about $10 million. The Senators will absorb a $3-million cap hit this season and then about $1.8 million annually for three more years.
