GIDDY, Barbara Ruth (Neale)

June 11, 1931 - September 20, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Ruth Giddy (Neale). Mom left us peacefully early Sunday morning, September 20, 2020 at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her husband, Rupert Norman Giddy, and her three brothers, Ward, Jack and Ron Neale.

She is survived by her children, Cathy Watt (Rob), Jay Mann (Paule Cantin) and Rebecca Mann, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Nick), Natalie, Ryan (Cassandra), Kevin, Victoria and Laura and great-grandson, Lennox.

Ruth grew up in Beaconsfield, Quebec and attended Montreal West High School. Upon graduating from Mcgill University in 1952, she pursued a teaching career, which included 20 years as a devoted and loved Latin and English teacher at John Rennie High School in Pointe Claire. She also spent countless hours after school preparing spectacular costumes for JRHS annual drama productions.

Ruth had many hobbies and activities but perhaps loved golf the most. Inspired by her brothers, she joined the Beaconsfield Golf Club in 1953 and was an active member for over 50 years. She served as Ladies’ Captain in 1985/86 and the Ladies’ President in 1992/93.

During her retirement she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Low Vision Self Help Association and kept busy gardening, sewing and bowling.

She will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 10, from 1-3 p.m. at Collins Clarke Macgillivray White Funeral Homes, 222 Autoroute 20, Pointe Claire, Quebec.
