It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Alicja Bednarska (nee Wełna). She passed peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 13 at the age of 85.

Alicja was born in Warsaw, Poland on July 1, 1935. She moved to Canada in 1981 where she lived the rest of her years. Alicja is survived by family in Canada and Poland; notably, her two daughters, Iwonna (Andrzej) and Ewa, her granddaughters Jowita (Grzegorz), Nadia (Stephen) and Ilona, as well as beloved great granddaughters (Zuzanna, Julia, Alice, and Avery).

Alicja had a heart of gold; she was compassionate, selfless and caring. She loved animals from a young age, always keeping one or more in her company (she also leaves behind her cat, Abby). In her later years, she became an avid hockey fan. Mostly, she enjoyed life's simple pleasures such as leisurely walks in the sunshine and sharing in the company of her family over coffee and cake. Alicja will always hold a special place in all our hearts and will be fondly remembered forever.
