Susan was born January 7, 1929, in Kampala, Uganda, to Commander and Mrs. Oswald Sitwell (Grace Mcdonald). On reaching school age, she moved to England, where she lived with her paternal grandparents and much loved Aunt Margaret (Sitwell) in Alnwick, Northumberland. When war broke out, she moved with her mother and siblings to Montreal, where they stayed with her maternal aunts Barbara and Annie.

From 1955 to 1957 the family lived in Germany, where André, who was an officer in the Royal 22nd, had been posted. They then returned to Canada, moving from Quebec City to Sackville, Val-cartier and Sainte-foy, before finally settling in Chicoutimi, where Susan handled inter-library loans for the university for some twenty years.

Susan was an avid reader and gardener, and was known for her beautiful handicrafts. She was also a skilful sailor, assisting André through the years on their many boating adventures. She will be remembered for her wisdom, resilience, energy, generosity and cheerfulness, as well as her strong faith.

A small family memorial service was held on September 20. A graveside service was held two days later at Saint François-xavier Cemetery next to the University of Québec at Chicoutimi, after which Susan was interred beside her beloved husband Charles-andré.
