We need more Clifford Lincolns

-

I can only wish we would have more politicians with the moral fibre and integrity of Clifford Lincoln.

During his time as a politician, he was an example of an individual who was willing to sacrifice party solidarity for what he believed was right.

I agree with his opinion piece on several of his points:

I do not believe we needed this election. My father used to say minority governments were some of the best governments in the history of Canada — and this minority government seemed to be working.

It must not be easy to be a politician today. You have to be thick-skinned, especially with what gets spewed on social media. I want to believe the majority of individuals who present themselves to the electorate do so with the intention of doing their best for the betterment of Canadians. It seems we are governed more and more by politicians who seem to be more concerned with what direction the wind is blowing than what is best for Canadians.

Just because a majority of Quebecers are in favour of Bill 21, for example, does not mean it is right and just. Party leaders should set the example and show that the goal of the party is to stand for what is right and just for all — and stand up for a Canada that our children and grandchildren will be proud to inherit.
