Zorba composer Theodorakis dies
Mikis Theodorakis, the composer best known for the 1964 film Zorba the Greek, has died in Athens at age 96. He'd been suffering from heart problems for years, The Times says. Zorba the Greek starred Anthony Quinn and won three Oscars — its theme song, Zorba's Dance, remains one of the most famous pieces of Greek music. Theodorakis also wrote the soundtrack for Al Pacino's 1973 film, Serpico. He was for much of his life a leftist and remained politically active. The song Antonis from his 1965 work Mauthausen Trilogy was the theme of the 1969 film Z, which won a BAFTA Award.
