Quebec launches family mediation service
The Quebec government is launching a pilot project that will allow some families to take advantage of mediation services when their children are followed by the youth protection system. The mediation service can be used if a family and youth protection officials cannot agree on “voluntary measures” to keep a child safe. The program will give families an opportunity to participate in mediation before a case goes to court. The new service is free and can be used for a maximum of five hours. It will begin in Quebec City and be introduced in other parts of the province in 2022.
