Man arrested after Amber Alert appears in court on firearm charge
A Quebec man who was the subject of a provincewide manhunt after allegedly abducting a three-yearold appeared in court Monday.
Appearing by video conference, 36-year-old David Côté was charged with discharging a firearm. He was detained and will appear in court again on Oct. 5, when he will likely face other charges related to the alleged kidnapping.
The investigation is ongoing, police say.
A four-day Amber Alert, triggered when the man and child went missing, ended on Saturday when police found them barricaded inside a house in Ste-paule, near Matane in the Gaspé Peninsula.
The Sûreté du Québec alleges the man used a firearm while police surrounded the residence, but no one was injured in the incident.
The toddler has since been reunited with his mother.
