What's open, closed over holidays
Here's a partial list of what will be open and closed through the Christmas and New Year's holidays. All information is dependent on public health guidelines and restrictions to help slow the spread of COVID -19.
■ Canada Post offices close on Dec. 25 and 26 each year. Delivery resumes Dec. 27. Some privately operated postal outlets operate according to their own hours, so check with the outlet. There is no delivery on Jan. 1.
■ Banks will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2.
■ Most shopping malls and stores will close at 5 p.m. today, stay closed tomorrow and reopen no earlier than 10 a.m. on Boxing Day. On Dec. 31, they will close at 5 p.m. and stay closed Jan. 1.
■ Société des alcools du Québec outlets will close at 5 p.m. today and reopen at 1 p.m. on Dec. 26. On Dec. 31, stores will close at 5 p.m.; they will reopen at 1 p.m. on Jan. 2. Hours are extended to 9 p.m. until Dec. 23. SAQ Express stores will close at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 31 and reopen at 1 p.m. on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
■ Société québécoise du cannabis outlets will close at 5 p.m. today and reopen at 1 p.m. on Dec. 26. Outlets will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and reopen at 9 a.m. on Jan. 2. Express delivery will not be available on Dec. 24-25 or Dec. 31-Jan. 1.
■ Montreal's public markets will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2.
■ Most municipal offices will be closed until Jan. 4. Montreal's 311 phone line will be in operation during that period.
■ Garbage, recycling and large item pickups will maintain their usual schedule through the holidays in most boroughs. Visit ville. montreal.qc.ca/infocollectes for more information.
■ Ecocentres are closed until Jan. 3.
■ Many Montreal arenas, swimming pools, sports centres, libraries and cultural venues will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 2, while others will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2. ■ The Montreal Municipal Court (775 Gosford St.) service counter will be closed until Jan. 4. The hours of other service counters have been modified due to COVID -19. Check with the service counter.
■ Parking meters remain in operation unless otherwise specified and all restrictions must be obeyed. Street parking downtown is free after 6 p.m. on weekdays and during weekends until Jan. 2.
■ Revenue Quebec offices are closed for an indefinite period, due to the spike in COVID cases. However, its online services remain available, as are services by phone: 1-800-267-6299 (individuals) or 1-800-567-4692 ( businesses).
■ The Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, Biodôme, Botanical Garden and Biosphère are closed indefinitely due to pandemic restrictions. The Insectarium is closed for renovations. Visit espacepourlavie.ca for more information.
■ Société de transport de Montréal bus lines will operate on a holiday schedule on Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2. Consult schedules at stm.info/en or call 514-288-6287. Adapted transit service hours will be extended to 3 a.m. (arrival time) today, tomorrow and on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Reservations must be made no later than the day before the planned trip.
■ The Société de transport de Laval will offer free bus service, STL collective taxi service and adapted transit service (the latter by reservation) today and on Dec. 31. STL drivers will be taking the public's donations to Moisson Laval. The STL will also offer a free shuttle service in downtown Laval, with departures every 20 minutes from Montmorency métro station. Children 11 and younger can ride the bus free when accompanied by an adult pass holder. Buses will run on Saturday hours today and on Dec. 31, on a reduced Sunday schedule tomorrow and on Jan. 1 and on Sunday hours on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Visit stl.laval.qc.ca for more information.
■ Réseau de transport de Longueuil buses and collective taxi service will run on a Sunday schedule Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2.
