TREE PLANTING SPREE THIS FALL

The city of Vaudreuil-dorion is set to plant around 11,000 trees in its territory this fall. About 800 trees of between 50 and 100 millimetres in diameter will replace ash trees that had to be felled in parks, green spaces and street rights-of-way due to the emerald ash borer. Around 10,000 small trees are planned for high-density planting sites, such as Harwood nature park, Maison-valois and Île Bray parks as well as green spaces along Brunet and Bellini streets and near the Highway 40 overpass at Montée Cadieux. The off island city's large-scale operation is carried out in part through the Government of Canada's 2 Billion Trees Program. “We usually plant between 600 and 800 trees a year in public places, parks and street rights-of-way. This fall, we are taking advantage of the 2 Billion Tree Program to add even more trees and thus reforest various sectors,” stated Mayor Guy Pilon.
