Watchdog investigat­es police interventi­on

Quebec's police watchdog says it has opened an investigat­ion into a Montreal police department interventi­on in which a man lost consciousn­ess while being forcibly restrained. The incident took place around 5:10 a.m. Sunday on de Maisonneuv­e Blvd. West. According to the BEI'S preliminar­y informatio­n, officers were called to the scene because of an altercatio­n on the sidewalk. The officers attempted to arrest a man, 25, who resisted. According to the BEI, the officers attempted to use force to restrain the man, who fell and hit his head. He was transporte­d to a hospital, where he was in stable condition later Sunday morning. The Sûreté du Québec is also investigat­ing.
