Watchdog investigates police intervention
Quebec's police watchdog says it has opened an investigation into a Montreal police department intervention in which a man lost consciousness while being forcibly restrained. The incident took place around 5:10 a.m. Sunday on de Maisonneuve Blvd. West. According to the BEI'S preliminary information, officers were called to the scene because of an altercation on the sidewalk. The officers attempted to arrest a man, 25, who resisted. According to the BEI, the officers attempted to use force to restrain the man, who fell and hit his head. He was transported to a hospital, where he was in stable condition later Sunday morning. The Sûreté du Québec is also investigating.
