Fan proves his passion for Warriors

- By Kayla Klemenz For Moose Jaw Express

The Moose Jaw Warriors got off to a great start during the BMO CHL Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012. Tons of fans came out to Mosaic Place to cheer on the team and celebrate the BMO event which was a huge success. The event was held to “recognize the passion and pride of Moose Jaw Warriors fans” and included an Ultimate Fan contest. The winner, Trevor Folliott, competed in a trivia event against two fellow fans with the entire arena watching during the break between the 2nd and 3rd period. After winning a best of five contest, Trevor went home with an autographed team jersey with a BMO crest on the front as well as a $50 prepaid MasterCard. His name was then entered into a draw to win a trip for 2 to the Memorial Cup in Saskatoon. BMO also handed out slapstick noise makers to fans to get the Warrior spirit going. With a loud, enthusiastic crowd, the Warriors were up 2-0 early in the game against the Seattle Thunderbirds. They battled hard but after a rough 2nd period it was tough to come back. In the end, the Warriors lost in a shoot-out but the support of their fans remains. Andrew Johnson and Tanner Eberle scored the first two goals. It wasn’t until the second period that Seattle had a chance to score, but after that it was a very backand-forth game. The game was tied at 2 when Roberts Lipsbergs scored. The Warriors took a 3-2 lead less than 7 minutes later when Sam Fioretti scored but fell to Seattle’s power play 5 minutes after that. The two teams battled hard to overcome the 3-3 tie but neither could score during the rest of the 3rd period or in overtime. And even though Moose Jaw’s Daniel Wapple made 28 saves to Seattle’s Brandon Glover’s 22, it ended in defeat for the Warriors. Everyone played a great game though, and fans at the BMO Appreciation Night still had a blast! A big congratulations to all who participated in the BMO night and continue to cheer our tribe on through thick and thin! Go Planet Red
