Alice Cooper: There’s more of a man behind the make-up

- Story by Joan Ritchie Photos by Mike Stobbs

Over 4 decades as a rock star legend, songwriter and musician, Alice Cooper brought a slightly tamed down version to Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw on his Night of Fear Tour on November 9th, 2012. The 64 yearold master of imagery played his theatrical brand of heavy medal music and has more going on than his stage persona portrays. Alice Cooper is not all about fear and freak-show antics but there’s the man behind the makeup than most wouldn’t believe; an extremely popular radio DJ with his classic rock show Nights with Alice Cooper that began airing in 2004; a restaurateur, celebrity, film actor, an avid golfer and a man with a faith in God. Most still recall Cooper’s hit song every year when the school bell rings out summer break, “School’s Out” …for the summer! Just a little tidbit of interesting information: The actual ownership of the Alice Cooper name is an example of the value of branding in copyright or trademark. Since ‘Alice Cooper’ was the original name of the band and not the lead singer’s name; it was owned corporately by the band and Alice Cooper still continues to pay a yearly royalty to his original bandmates for the commercial use of the name. His birth name was Vincent Damon Furnier; born February 4th, 1948.
