Apprenticeship Awards to Honour Outstanding Contributions in the Skilled Trades
On October 27th, new journeypersons were honoured for their achievements in the skilled trades at the Annual Apprenticeship Awards, hosted by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC). The awards recognized 34 journeypersons who achieved the highest marks on the journeyperson certification exam in their designated trades between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017. Moose Jaw’s Outstanding New Journeypersons for the 2016-17 term are Jeremy Kusch Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) and Adam Bakken, Instrumentation and Control Technician. Additional awards were presented to apprentices, employers, instructors, and Skills Canada Saskatchewan competition gold medal winners.
“On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, congratulations to the outstanding new journeypersons on the results of your commitment and hard work,” Economy Minister Steven Bonk said. “I am pleased to celebrate those honoured at the Apprenticeship Awards this year. I would also like to thank all of those employers who support apprentices and journeypersons in the skilled trades.”
In addition to this year’s 17th annual Apprenticeship Awards, 13 industry partners will also present their own awards at the event.
“The apprenticeship system is strong due to the partnerships between the SATCC, the Government of Saskatchewan, technical training providers, trade boards, employers and apprentices,” SATCC Commission Board Chair Drew Tiefenbach said. “These awards recognize those partnerships, as well as celebrate the accomplishments of new journeypersons and stakeholders who have made significant contributions to the skilled trades.”
