- Sasha-Gay Lobban

TAP Toastmasters Club No. 1422 Moose Jaw will be holding an open house at Sask. Polytechnic on Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Lynn Halstead, secretary of TAP Toastmasters says the open house is an event taking place with all Toastmasters’ clubs but TAP Toastmasters Moose Jaw will be hosting its open house Jan. 16. TAP meets Tuesday nights and is inviting anyone who is interested in learning more about the club to visit the open house.

“If you’re interested in learning skills that help in any area of your life, this event is the perfect one to get that kind of information and how we can help you build those skills. I’d love for everyone to join us even if you are not interested right now. You can use Toastmasters as a credit for continuing education or professional development credits. Toastmasters is one that is eligible to further these types of development,” said Halstead.

At the open house, persons will get an opportunity to get all the information they can about Toastmasters and how it can help in their everyday lives. Persons will also get to find out how they can get involved. “We’re inviting everyone in the community who is interested in working on leadership skills, public speaking or learning how to speak or write different types of speeches. Toastmasters is an international organization with thousands of clubs all over the country and around the world. The skills that you acquire at Toastmasters are transferable across the world,” added Halstead.

Being a member for about two years, she is a testament of how beneficial being part of Toastmasters can be. She says being part of TAP Toastmasters has boosted her confidence in speaking publicly or making presentations and she would love for others to tap into this opportunity. “I joined Toastmasters to do something that is totally out of my comfort zone which is public speaking. It has given me a lot of confidence to help me speak in front of bigger groups,” she said. The mission of the Toastmasters Club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills which in turn fosters self confidence and personal growth. TAP Club celebrated its 19th anniversary on Dec. 1 last year. The club is for adults only, starting at age 19. For more information, contact Lynn Halstead at 306-631-4249 or lhalstead@sasktel.net.
